Start your off-road experience and visit the Tomato Industrial Factory which has been transformed into a modern Museum, that offers a retrospection of the cultivation & production process of one of the most famous and traditional products of Santorini. Learn about Santorini’s famous cherry tomato, which is thicker-skinned, sweeter and smaller than the garden-variety because of the island’s volcanic soil and lack of water. Take a complimentary guided tour in the old factory, learn the history of tomato production and taste the tomato paste.
Afterwards, visit the remote Vichada beach, take memorable pictures and laze on the dark volcanic beach, prominent for the overwhelming carved cliffs of volcanic pumice stone, beautifully sculpted by the wind and the sea.
Discover the Medieval castle of Emporio, constructed in the mid-15th century by the Venetians to shield themselves from the pirate invasions. Explore the interior of this well maintained fortified settlement with interesting architecture, quaint ambience and beautiful colors. The scenary reminds a labyrinth with very narrow streets, arches and houses built side by side. It is considered one of the best landmarks and a must-see site of Santorini.
Later follow a small road towards the hilltop above the village of Emporio. Along the rim see the 8 traditional windmills and an isolated white washed chappel on the edge of the cliff. A stunning location with an open view, suitable for panoramic pictures and a wonderful sunset.
Lastly taste the flavor of the island by visiting Hatzidakis vineyards, a cave winery. Built on an existing traditional small cave, you will be presented to the richness and the unique complexity of the local wine, which still have many “hidden secrets” to reveal. In Hatzidakis winery you will be tasting a complimentary selection of 4 local wine varieties.
The sunset tour starts at 4pm or 5pm and includes an amazing sunset experience from the windmills hilltop.
